Chicory is a Game About a Talking Dog Named Pizza and a Magic Paintbrush

The developer behind 2018’s Wandersong is back with a new adventure game called Chicory: A Colorful Tale. After the success that Wandersong garnered during it’s Kickstarter run, game developer Greg Lobanov decided to subsequently launch a Kickstarter campaign for Chicory. The campaign began a few days ago and already surpassed its $30,000 goal. People are clearly eager to support Lobanov’s newest game.

Plus, it’s probably not hurting things that the star of his newest game is a talking dog named Pizza.

Pizza is from Picnic Province where all the inhabitants are animals named after food. How charming. Pizza takes center stage when Chicory, a magical artist responsible for coloring the world, goes missing. In Chicory’s absence, some not-so-charming folks are taking advantage of the lack of new color and are trying to sap the remaining color from the world.

Equipped with a magic paint brush, Pizza must restore the world to its rightful color and figure out what the deal is with the anti-color folks.

Lobanov describes Chicory’s exploration as a Metroid-style game where players upgrade their paintbrush to solve different puzzles and access new areas. Players will manipulate the environment with their paintbrush while collecting equipment that can be used to power up the brush’s abilities and Pizza’s outfit ensemble.

Chicory’s soundtrack is being created by Lena Raine (Guild Wars 2, Celeste) and it’s available to sample on her Bandcamp profile.

Chicory is still in development, but for now you can check out the game on Kickstarter and follow the developer on Twitter.
