Hand of Fate 2 [Nintendo Switch] Review

Hands of Fate 2 Switch

In late 2017, I had the pleasure of venturing into the world of Hand of Fate 2 to review it on the PC for its original release. Defiant Development crafted an excellent fantasy adventure game that is part hack-and-slash action game and part card-based roguelike. That sort of description may shy some potential players away, but it should not. Hand of Fate 2 flawlessly combines the two genres into a readily accessible game that gives players unique experiences each time they begin an adventure.

When Defiant Development game me the opportunity to play Hand of Fate 2 on the Nintendo Switch, I jumped at the chance. Because the game is a micro-combat game within a card game within a board game, I knew that being able to play in short bursts (something that the mobility of the Switch excels at) would be a perfect way to keep some of the longer rounds going even when I’m away from home, yet I could easily sink a few hours into the game from the comfort of my couch with the Switch docked to the television. Having a Switch version of Hand of Fate 2 (like so many other games) is just a win-win opportunity for players.

I found nothing wrong with the Switch version. The graphics were downgraded a little bit, but that’s understandable for the translation from a high-end PC to the Switch’s mediocre hardware. With that said, I experienced no lag or graphical bugs, and the framerate held solid with no noticeable dips even during chaotic fights.

So, due to the fact that this Switch version holds up just as well as the original, I’m keeping my original review score of 9 out of 10 for the Switch version. I encourage you to read my original Hand of Fate 2 review that goes more into the mechanics of the game and outlines what sort of experience players can expect.

Don’t sleep on Hand of Fate 2.
