If you’re looking for big battles, medieval-style warfare, and a game that’s not going to devour your entire evening, Circle Empires may be for you. Developed by Luminous (composed of developers with credits including Teleglitch: Die More Edition) and published by Iceberg Interactive, Circle Empires forces players to rapidly build up an army and attempt to take over as many little kingdoms as possible before the enemy does. Resources are gathered quickly, military units are ready to go as fast as you can click to spawn them (as long as you have the resources to recruit them) and combat is a simple affair where little strategy is involved.
Basically, if you just took over a circle kingdom that had a power rating of 160, and it was a hard battle, maybe hold off on attacking the 3,000 power circle kingdom until your army is bigger.
It’s all about momentum in Circle Empires. Because there’s a finite amount of circle kingdoms to conquer, per game, you’ll want to ensure that you are continually taking over kingdoms and outpacing your opponents. More kingdoms conquered equates to more incoming resources, which equates to a bigger army, which equates to more conquests and on and on it goes.
There is, of course, a bit more strategy to it than just comparing two numbers. You can create groups of specific troop types that function to counter the specific enemies that are at your round borders, or you can do what I just did and ammass a ragtag army of barbarians, archers, necromancers, and wiggly-tailed dragons and roll across the map Genghis Khan-style.
Circle Kingdoms just released on GOG with a special discount price. You can also find Circle Empires on Steam. Both stores provide versions ready for PC, Mac and Linux players.
A retail copy of Circle Empires was provided to Epic Brew by the publisher.
