Developed for the 4th GameShell Game Jam (theme: robots), Cat At Home tasks players with scooting around a house as a little cleaning robot and avoiding the pesky, stay-at-home cat while you clean.
Accompanied by a boppin’ chiptune theme, Cat At Home is more of a puzzle game than an adventure game. The rooms are not perfectly square and the robot can only move in four directions, which makes navigation tricky. While the cat is agile, it will only run for a short distance before it needs to rest. Cats do like their naps.
The trick is to kite the cat around the rooms in just the right way so that you can scoot by it while it rests. Learning the “right way” is the puzzle that the player must solve.
At the time I played it, Cat at Home had a little technical bug: you’ll want to use the “A” and “Z” keys to start and then restart the game, even though the main menu says to use “X.” Not a game-breaking bug, but one that took me a little bit of time to figure out.
