Earlier today, WIRED published the first real sighting of Orgrim Doomhammer, the protagonist/antagonist in the upcoming Warcraft film.
The article accompanying the image contains a brief except from Warcraft director, Duncan Jones, who explains why he chose actor Robert Kazinsky (he was the younger Australian Jaeger pilot in Pacific Rim) for the role of Ogrim, and just how special effects studio, Industrial Light and Magic, is bringing the character to life.
Ogrim Doomhammer was the leader of the Horde during the end of the First War and through the entirety of the Second War. There are more than two wars in the Warcraft universe, just to be clear, but those are the two big ones, —think of it like World War I and World War II. Players of World of Warcraft may recognize Ogrim’s name because the capital city of the Horde, Ogrimmar, is named in his honor. The events that take place in the Warcraft movie happened long before the events that occurred even at the start of World of Warcraft’s decade-long run.
Ogrim was good friends with Durotan (which Durotar, an area in World of Warcraft, is named after), who is the father of the great orc Shaman, and previous Horde warchief, Thrall. It was Ogrim who brought the trolls into the Horde, and Ogrim who came close to, —well, I don’t want to spoil the movie for the unaware.
If you’re super curious about Ogrim Doomhammer, you can read his impressive story on WoWwikki, or you can just wait to see how the movie plays out, when it releases in June 2016.
