Movies on a Budget: True Grit

True Grit Review

“You must pay for everything in this world, one way and another. There is nothing free except the grace of God. “

Netflix Summary: After drifter Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin) murders her father, 14-year-old Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) hires alcoholic U.S. Marshal Reuben “Rooster” Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) to help her exact revenge. The disreputable lawman still has grit, though, and mounts an epic search. Joining the duo on their quest is a Texas Ranger (Matt Damon) who’s also hunting for Chaney in this updated Western that received multiple Oscar nods, including Best Picture.

You’ll Like True Grit if you Like: 3:10 to Yuma or Jeff Bridges.

Avoid True Grit if you Dislike: Westerns or children that act much older than they should, in reality.

One Sentence Review: As far as straight-to-the-point Westerns go, True Grit is a solid film that is supported by Jeff Bridges’ entertaining characterization of Rooster Cogburn.
