EA has announced that the demo for the third installment of the Crysis franchise will debut exclusively on the Xbox 360 next week.
This is the first time a Crysis game has appeared on consoles, so it begs to be asked if this Crysis installment will be as good looking as its PC parents looked.
Personally, I can’t imagine the game looking as good as it does in the trailer below, on consoles. The Xbox360 and the Playstation3 are just not powerful enough to run something like that below. Notice the trailer never says “Taken entirely from console gameplay” which leads me to believe that the footage we see in the trailer is cut out of a PC gaming session, run on a very high-end computer.
EA is notorious for doing this. Look at their entire ad campaign for Medal of Honor that was released last October. They advertised using only PC graphics, leading us all to believe that those were the visuals we’d see, when in fact, it was only the kind of graphics a gamer running on a high-end PC would get to enjoy. The rest of us were stuck with a jagged-line Picasso game.
So enjoy the trailer, but keep in mind that what you see is probably NOT what you’re going to get. But hey, don’t take my word for it, download the demo for yourself next week (January 25th) on Xbox Live.
